New dating evidence supports claims that bones found under a church floor in Bulgaria may be of John the Baptist, who is described in the Bible as a leading prophet and relative of Jesus Christ. A team from the Oxford Radiocarbon Accelerator Unit at Oxford University dated a knucklebone from the right hand to the 1st century AD, a date which fits with the widely held view of when he would have lived. The researchers say they were surprised when they discovered the very early age of the remains adding, however, that dating evidence alone cannot prove the bones to be of John the Baptist. The bones were originally discovered in by archaeologist Kazimir Popkonstantinov, excavating under an ancient church on an island in Bulgaria known as Sveti Ivan, which translates into English as St John. The knucklebone was one of six human bones, including a tooth and the face part of a cranium, found in small marble sarcophagus under the floor near the altar. Three animal bones were also inside the sarcophagus. Oxford professors Thomas Higham and Christopher Ramsey attempted to radiocarbon date four human bones, but only one of them contained a sufficient amount of collagen to be dated successfully. Professor Higham said: “We were surprised when the radiocarbon dating produced this very early age.

A Southern Baptist pastor and former seminary professor asked a Christian publisher to remove a foreword written by Joshua Harris from future printings of a book published in , after the well-known advocate of the evangelical purity culture announced he has fallen away from the Christian faith. Harris , who authored I Kissed Dating Goodbye as a year-old in , announced recently on Instagram that he and his wife of 21 years were separated.
The culture war is over, and the gays and the liberals have won. Or at least this is what recent reports of changing attitudes toward gay marriage and sexuality in Southern Baptist communities have implied. Although this may be true at a few churches, at the national level, it doesn’t seem to be the case. Russell Moore, the president of the Southern Baptist Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, says media reports are overemphasizing a minority viewpoint. No matter what’s happening politically with same-sex marriage, he says, Baptist beliefs about homosexuality haven’t changed.
There is not space in Southern Baptist churches for someone who is unrepentantly engaged in homosexual conduct. Moore isn’t saying anything new; evangelical Christians have long used this language to describe their views on marriage and sexuality.

Louis Post-Dispatch and saw a full-page ad listing the Southern Baptist Convention among denominations that affirmed the right to abortion. So Lewis did something about it, proposing in the first of more than 20 pro-life resolutions adopted by the SBC over the next few decades. When Lewis became HMB president of in , one of his first actions was to create the office of abortion alternatives to help churches establish crisis pregnancy centers.
Baptists and Roman Catholics had long agreed that life begins at conception, but Baptist scholars, unlike their Catholic counterparts, generally did not develop biblical and theological arguments regarding unborn children. Between , abortion was referenced at least 85 times in popular magazines and scholarly journals, but no Baptist state paper mentioned abortion and no Baptist body took action related to the subject, according to a Ph.

So, I like this guy. Would it be wrong if I told him I like him? Scripture is clear about not being yoked with unbelievers, but both Catholics and Baptists are believers, right? And when it comes to two different Christian faiths, I feel that it can work out, but only if you come together in unity regarding your faith. But what does that mean? Your parents are correct. While some Christian denominations have few differences in their beliefs, Baptists and Catholics are way different.
And if both you and your crush are strong in your faiths, this could cause conflict. Baptists and Catholics share some similarities, such as the Trinity and salvation through grace alone, but they differ when it comes to baptism, communion, confession, and so many other things.
“I’m Baptist, He’s Catholic…Should I Take It Further?”

Find A Church Give Online. The 1. The following facts are representative of the tradition and practice of American Baptists. American Baptists celebrate the fact that belief in Jesus Christ assures salvation and eternal fellowship with a loving God. The events of the first Easter week are the cornerstones of our faith: the death of Christ, in which He took upon Himself the sin of the world, and the Resurrection, which gave proof of His triumph over sin and death.
Holy Scripture always has been for American Baptists the authoritative and trustworthy guide for knowing and serving the God who is revealed as Creator, Savior and Advocate. Baptist roots date back four centuries to a people seeking the opportunity to worship God as individual members of freely organized and freely functioning local churches. Baptists always have maintained the need for autonomous congregations, responsible for articulating their own doctrine, style of worship and mission.
American Baptists hold that all who truly seek God are both competent and called to develop in that relationship. American Baptists also celebrate the special gifts of all believers, testifying that God can use each of us in ministry. As a people whose forbears came together in response to intolerance, American Baptists have cherished freedom and pursued it for millions around the world.
Manifestations of that ideal include supporting separation of church and state, advocating for people everywhere to be guaranteed the right to worship free from discrimination, and lifting up respectful dialog as a healthy means to understanding. Early Baptists saw that the effectiveness of their ministries would be greater through cooperation with other believers. Today within our American Baptist regions, churches work with each other and with denominational staff and in local and regional ecumenical arenas to increase the vitality and scope of their ministries.

In the initial conversations with someone, I have had a few people who are very anti-religious and therefore very skeptical of my intentions.
As a spiritual leader, there are so many cultural expectations on me and how I should interact with others. One negative? Up until the last couple of years, I was looking for a committed Christian man, but in Christian circles, my status as a clergy person was always evident, and I think that is intimidating for many men. For one, the profession is still viewed as masculine, and that can be a turnoff.
It hurts sometimes to know that my vocation contributes to my loneliness. Michael , a pastor in his late 50s who is currently working as a clergy person at a church in San Antonio: I consider myself polyamorous and use that term because, for me, it is about love, not simply multiple sexual partners. I am dating three women that I am deeply in love with and see regularly.
The quality of love I have for each varies, just as it does for friends or family I love.
